A man was in custody after he was allegedly spotted trying to break into a car at 9:30 a.m. Thursday in downtown Kailua-Kona.
Ryan Schaumberg, 18, of Kailua-Kona, was allegedly spotted trying to get into a Kia, said Chris Loos, media relations for the police department.
The witness tried to stop Schaumberg, who fled, said Loos. Police were called and the witness began pursuit, she said. Eventually Schaumberg was arrested at 10:15 a.m. on Alii Drive.
He is charged with unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle.
